The goal of the DAMSEL project is to produce
an open-source Digital Assets Management System for Electronic Libraries. Such
a system allows educational institutions and other groups to provide a flexible,
dynamic system for the storage, categorization, and retrieval of digital assets
of all types, without incurring the high cost associated with proprietary solutions.
For more information about the DAMSEL software, see the Project
page.
Initially conceived as part of the Associated
Colleges of the South Tech Center
Software Engineering Internship,
the DAMSEL project was begun in the summer of 2003 by 10 computer science students
selected from the member institutions of the ACS. For more information about the students,
see the Team page.
About the Damselfly: The
Damselfly (suborder Zygoptera) is an insect in the order Odonata. They
are similar to a dragonfly, but the adults can be differentiated by
the fact their wings are held along the body when at rest. They are
also usually smaller, and weaker fliers than dragonflies, and the eyes
are separated. |
